For Anchal Sharda, the journey from classroom to career began with a love for analytical, detail-oriented work. “PSU helped me understand just how much I enjoy analytical and detail-oriented work,” she shared. Rigorous coursework strengthened problem-solving abilities and deepened analytical skills, guiding Anchal toward roles in accounting, finance, and data-driven decision-making. Exposure to modern tools and technologies boosted confidence and prepared her for work focused on systems, data, and continuous improvement.
Learning Through Hands-On Experience and Community
Several courses continue to shape how Anchal works today. The courses—Valuation Modeling, Managerial Analytics, Financial Statement Analysis, and Applied Financial Decisions (from the Master of Science in Finance (MSF) Program), along with Global Information Systems and Data Analytics, and Business with Python (from the Enterprise Analytics certificate)—provided hands-on experience with tools and frameworks I was interested in the most. These projects taught the critical evaluation of information, analytical software skills, and clear communication of insights.
Equally impactful was the PSU community. “The faculty and my classmates had the biggest impact. My professors were incredibly supportive and pushed me to think deeper and strengthen my technical skills. And my classmates, who came from so many different backgrounds, helped me build strong teamwork and communication skills.” This exposure to diverse perspectives prepared Anchal for collaborative, real-world environments.
Adaptability and Advice for Future Professionals
Since graduating, Anchal has been reminded that career paths are rarely linear. “Opportunities often appear in unexpected ways,” she reflected. PSU provided a strong analytical foundation, the confidence to learn new tools quickly, and the ability to thrive in diverse teams, key skills for navigating evolving roles and responsibilities.
Anchal’s advice for current students is practical and inspiring: “Stay curious, stay open, and take advantage of every opportunity PSU offers. Build relationships with your professors and classmates, they become your long-term network. Don’t be afraid to explore roles or industries that push you outside your comfort zone. Develop both your analytical and communication skills. In today’s workplace, being able to understand data, use new tools, and collaborate with people from diverse backgrounds will truly set you apart.”
