Julia Freybote’s impact in the world of real estate research.
By Jacob Ashley
Julia Freybote, associate professor of Finance and Real Estate and academic director of the Master of Real Estate Development program in The School of Business at Portland State University, has reached new heights in her intellectual contributions to real estate research. The Real Estate Academic Leadership (REAL) rankings are in, and Julia has tied for fourth based on her number of studies published in the top real estate journals, totaling 11, between 2018 and 2022.
REAL endeavors to measure the academic contribution of real estate scholars worldwide by tracking the number of published works in the top three real estate journals: The Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics, The Journal of Real Estate Research, and Real Estate Economics.
Her passion for studies relevant to the real estate industry has created research examining the impact of EV charging stations on commercial real estate, which helps local businesses realize the value of this emerging technology. Also, in conjunction with an honors business student and Mercy Corp’s Community Investment Trust (CIT), she is currently working on a study measuring CIT’s impact on community investors. CIT represents a new commercial real estate investment vehicle for lower-income households while affording families a more equitable path to generational wealth. All these works have tangible, positive implications for the community around us.
Because of this work, Portland State has been elevated to 22 out of 438 REAL-ranked institutions worldwide, tied with the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, Syracuse University, the University of Cambridge, and the University of Southern California. PSU is the leading university for real estate research in the Pacific Northwest.
